17th November - Exploring Culture and Places through Photography - Julia Cumes

Julia is a South African-born photographer based in the United
States. She is passionate about storytelling and capturing real
moments of human connection. Her favourite projects are fo-
cused on women and girls and the struggles they face around
the world and wildlife conservation. As a photographer, she has
travelled widely and explored many cultures and communities
in India, Rwanda, Thailand, United States, Tanzania, Cuba and
many more.
Over the course of her career, Julia has photographed for maga-
zines, newspapers, humanitarian and wildlife rescue organiza-
tions, businesses and private clients. Her work has appeared in
publications such as the Boston Globe and New York Times as
well as in a variety of other national and local publications.
Julia hopes to present viewers with a version of the world they
may not otherwise get to see and engage them in dialog about
this extraordinary and complex world we live in and use the
Julia Cumes in her studio power of photography to “reach eternity through the moment”
(Henri Cartier-Bresson).
