On The Cover

Our front cover image, Street Photographer at night by John Alexander was one of
the highest-scoring images in our April Competition. It captured the attention of
the judge who scored scored it a perfect 30 out of 30 points. John explains "The
picture was taken in my garage studio. I asked the model to lean against the wall
and imagine he was shooting in a street at night and had just taken a shot and
was then checking the results. I then set the lights to imitate a night street scene
with a keylight above the model acting as a form of street light. I wanted the wall
and model to be in the light but the darkness to be prominent. This arrangement
would then focus attention on the model and story. The light I used was a Godox
400 with a 90 Octabox light modifier. I used a grid in the modifier to direct the
light and reduce spill. I used a Fujifilm XT2 camera and the settings were F5,6 and
focal length was 61mm and speed 1/250. "
