On The Cover
Our front cover image, Grand Canal by Jacoba van Zyl was one of the high-scor-
ing images in our January Competition. Jacoba explains "I took this image on a
workshop with Kim Stevens in Venice during November 2022. Conditions were
mostly overcast, but on this specific evening the sunset looked promising and
we gathered on Rialto Bridge to take the sunset along the iconic Grand Canal. It
was extremely frustrating as this must have been be the busiest location in Ven-
ice at sunset. Not too many photographers, but the selfie brigade was out in full
force and they have no respect for a tripod or your attempts at long exposures. I
practiced “the look” and scared a few children. After many exposures I managed
to get at least one sharp image.
Gear: Nikon D850 and 24 – 70mm f//2.8 Nikon lens.
Settings: ISO 64, 48mm and 61 sec at f14.
