Bonus outing: a day at the ballet
KIM STEVENS organised for CTPS members to photograph the dress rehearsal of the new
ballet SALT, directed by the new Cape Ballet Africa company founder Debbie Turner.
Cape Ballet Africa this month intro-
duced their first season with the bal-
let SALT — a triple bill of ballets cho-
reographed by three South Africans,
performed at the Baxter Theatre.
Kim Stevens arranged for a group
from CTPS to photograph the final
dress rehearsal of this ballet by the
new company formed by Debbie
Turner, formerly from Cape Town
City Ballet.
SALT derives its name from the
healing, preservative and purifying
qualities of the seasoning, which is
also used in rituals as protection and
inspiration.
Additional flavour was provided by
the international guest artist Bran-
don Lawrence of Ballett Zürich,
who partnered Cape Ballet Africa’s
Camille Bracher in Sir Kenneth Mac-
Millan’s Concerto adagio pas de
deux, with permission of the Ken-
neth Macmillan Trust.
The three ballets have been cho-
reographed by Continued p23
The images on this page were taken by
Lesley Parolis at the top ('Dancing with
petals') and Sally-Ann Spooner (centre),
both from the ballet 'Reverie'. Richard
Goldschmidt photographed this scene
from 'Smoke'(right).
