Winning images from March
Set subject: Negative Space
The January competition was judged remotely by Charmaine Joubert from Port Elizbeth
Photographic Club. The theme for the month was “Negative Space”. This was a challenging
subject but was very successfully dealt with gauging by the top scores given by the judge for
some really good images depicting negative space. Once again, some very artistic and creative
images were presented in both the open and set subject. These were rewarded by high scores
by our judge who expressed her appreciation of the ideas behind these images, reports LESLEY
PAROLIS.
Promotions: Kishore Seegobin and Vivien Harpur to Advanced
Please note: The rules for advancement from Intermediate to Advanced have been amended
to include an option to obtain at least ten scores of 24 points or more in CTPS competitions in
place of the required 5 salon acceptances. The competition rules now state:
For advancement from Intermediate to Advanced: 50 points (including any gained from Salon
acceptances, as per paragraph 2.3), and including a minimum of 10 Gold Awards in Society
competitions, and including 5 Salon acceptances (as per paragraph 2.3) or 10 scores of 24
points or higher in CTPS monthly competitions whichever is achieved first. Salon acceptances
may be carried over from the previous ranking and are thus cumulative. A single image may
collect a maximum of three acceptances in different Salons.
The CTPS entries into the PSSA monthly competition for January were Texting the city by
Kim Stevens (Senior Entry) and The journey home by Jessica Nitschke (Junior Entry).
Below are the winners in the various categories together with the judge’s comments.
Set Subject
Winner PDI - Set (Advanced) Far away on the billow by Roger Winner PDI - Set (Beginner) Paragliding in space by Sally-Ann
Trythall (25). Lovely story telling image with the person gazing Spooner (21). Lovely negative space around the paraglider. The
out into the distance. Lovely use of back lighting. The ledge at image is sharp and the colours complement each other. I feel
the bottom of the image is very dark and heavy and could be that the paraglider needs to be placed more towards the right
cropped off just a little. hand side of the image so as to allow for movement to the left.
