On the cover
Our front cover image Butterfly on Flower was taken by Walter Berndorfler. Walter
explains: 'After a long time of not being able to travel as a result of COVID, we decid-
ed to embark on a camping tour to the southern part of Namibia. Our friends were
happy to join us and so we went.'
'The trip took us as far as Mariental via fantastic back roads and we explored the areas
stretching from the B1 national highway to the east side and the Kgalagadi Game
Reserve.'.
'As we were unable to enter the park at the Mata Mata Crossing, as the border was
still closed, we stayed on the Namibian side and camped at a really nice camping site,
called DuneSong Breather. The place is on a private farm and located on top of a sand
dune. We were lucky to be accommodated as only one group of people is allowed.
We really enjoyed the absolute tranquillity and solitude; and the night sky is simply
breath-taking.'
During our first day at the camp, I noticed a bush next to the kitchen tent that at-
tracted a lot of butterflies, but only for about one hour in the afternoon. So the tripod
came out and…well that’s the photo….. I must admit, I got a bit of a sunburn as the
enthusiasm took over. The shot was taken with a Canon R6 and a RF100-500mm lens
at 500mm, 1/1000s, f11 and ISO 1250.
