On the cover - Profoundly Purple
The best thing in the world about the iPhone is that it is always just one’s pocket away
from an unexpected opportunity. The photo opportunities one encounters every-
where are prolific. I am forever skidding to a halt to take photos in unexpected loca-
tions, where no one else present can possibly imagine what I am attracted to.
Thus, it was when I passed a non-descript shelf at the Oranjezicht Farmers Market
that this pom pom of purple in a black flowerpot jumped out at me. I was attracted
by the detail and had a closer look. The colour, shape and texture amazed me.
I never once thought of the image as just a flower in a pot, but as a closeup, a detailed
texture, blazing shades of rich purples that would draw a viewer deep within. But my
friends were urging me to join them at a table for dinner, so I held the camera as close
to the flower as possible and snapped off three frames and forgot about it.
A few days later I spotted it on my Mac's Photos app and became very excited as I
was editing it in Photoshop. I began to see the possibilities for April’s Macro competi-
tion. There are limits for closeups on my current iPhone 11 and as there is a special
new macro feature on the latest iPhone 13, I can’t wait for my contract on my iPhone
11 to run out so I can upgrade. I love you Steve Jobs.
