For many years our small group of Full Spectrum members has been dis-

cussing plans to travel to this photographic treasure of a country. Our aim
was to be there during one of those rare rainy seasons when the vast, arid
and monochromatic landscape of stone and sand in the southern parts of

Namibia turns for a short time into a dream vista of inconceivable beauty.
Green and silver valleys that contrast with creamy beige and orange col-

oured sand dunes, and mountains tops that turn a flaming red during spec-
tacular sunsets – all enhanced by dramatic cloud formations in the skies.

The message that it’s raining again in Namibia for a second time
after 10 years of severe draught, and at the same time the ap-
pearance of some fantastic images from photographers who
were already there, placed considerable pressure on us to final-
ise our travel plans and book the accommodation for our two-
          week tour during March 2022.
However, due to time and logistical constraints, not all Full
Spectrum members were able to commit and some CTPS mem-
bers readily took up those places to make up our group of 10,
which consisted of Kim and Doug Stevens, Lesley and Lambe
Parolis, Trudi and Nicol du Toit, Jacoba van Zyl and Marius Stock-
          enström, Neels Beyers and I.
Nine members of the group travelled by car from Cape Town to
the border, along the magnificent Orange River (with the Rich- (from left) Guide Mario, Neels Beyers, Anna Engelhardt, Trudi &
tersveld mountains on the opposite bank) to Rosh Pinah and Nicol du Toit, Jacoba van Zyl, Mario Stockenström, Kim Stevens &
via Aus to Lüderitz, taking in the sights of this little town which Lesley Parolis
still shows many signs of its German colonial past. The aban-
