On the cover

As this is the last edition of Cape Camera I will be producing, I decided to be self-indulgent
and select one of my own images for the Front Cover - Little girls with big dreams, although
it only achieved Silver at our January 2022 Competition. I am particularly fond of it, and
not only because it has a certain warm and cuddly feel about it, but also because it is a
reflection of the times we are living in right now, where even ballet dancers have to wear
masks.
The image was taken in December during our CTPS outing/photo shoot at the Artscape
Theatre, were we had been given special permission to photograph the dancers at a re-
hearsal of the much loved ‘Christmas Carol’ ballet with music by Peter Tchaikovsky. De-
spite all the dance activity on stage, I could not help noticing these four little dancers
sitting quietly but attentively on the side, waiting eagerly for their time to shine.
Most of us found the occasion photographically rather challenging, particularly when
dealing with the frequent scene changes, difficult light conditions and the speed of the
dancers moving around the stage. However, after some trials and errors, I found my feet
and confidence in tackling this rather fascinating genre of photography.
My image was taken with a Fuji X-T3 and a 16-80 mm lens at f4, 1/200, ISO 3200.
