Our front cover image, Early Morning Pose by Michele-Ann Nel was one of the
high-scoring images in our March Competition. Michele-Ann explains "I took
this image of a juvenile Black-chested Snake-Eagle in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier
Park during our visit in January 2023. I came across this Snake-Eagle about 3kms
north of Nossob Camp at 5h55 am. Being the birder that I am, I was pleased to
come across this beautiful juvenile as they were very far and few between during
our 22 day stay. The light was low and the skies overcast. Luckily for me the sight-
ing was on my side of the vehicle therefore I was able to steady my camera on my
beanbag draped over my window.
Gear: Canon 1D Mark IV coupled with a Canon 300 F2.8 IS lens and a Canon 2x
extender. Settings: F5.6 at 1/250 sec and ISO 2000
