Southern Ground Hornbill Portrait by Jeanette du Toit
It is interesting to see how the scoring ranges differ with
Lesley Parolis received a Certificate of Merit for her Flying
dolphin and 6 additional Acceptances; Jeanette du Toit each judge who has adjudicated our images in the past
also achieved a Certificate of Merit for her Southern six monthly of CTPS competitions. For example, for PDI
Ground Hornbill Portrait and 6 additional Acceptances; entries the percentages of scores of 24 pts. or higher
Dieter Butow received 6 Acceptances; Kim Stevens – 4 range from almost half of all entries (48%) to less than
Acceptances; Chris Coetzee – 3 Acceptances; and Nicol a third (31%). On the other hand, the percentage of
du Toit, Trudi du Toit, Michael Pace and Theo Potgieter Golds awarded to images that scored below 24 pts. (in
– 1 acceptance each. posted on the PSSA website.gala other words, Gold for all levels below Salon) vary from
dinner and Honours banquet on the Friday evening 2% to 26%. This would be an indication of the number
of scores between 20 to 23 pts. awarded to Beginner,
Intermediate and Advanced members.
SASOL Highveld National Salon
The percentage of entries that were awarded Silver
or Bronze range from a high 60% to a low 41%. And
the average score per month ranges from 21.7 pts. in
February to 22.8 pts. in May and June.
All these judges are well qualified and experienced,
which just emphasises that judging is not an automated
science, but a reflection of personal views. And that at
club level it is the comments, not the score, which is
most important.
*As can be expected, the statistics of the prints
adjudicated in May differs considerably from those
of the PDI images that were judged in other months.
The reasons are that less than a third of the number
of images normally entered per month were entered
Roaring Falls by Kim Stevens in the print competition, and these were mainly (73%)
Kim Stevens received another Certificate of Merit for her from accomplished Salon and Master photographer
