5th January 12th January Cell phone Street photography
From city high streets to quiet suburbia, unexpected encounters and candid moments
… the streets are a reflection of life. Take the viewer there. Cell phone only. Colour or
monochrome
26th January 2nd February Abstract photography
An exercise in composition for the sake of art. The real identity of the abstractionist's
subject is not important and the result is not intended to be anything. Colour or mono-
chrome
23rd February 2nd March Architecture and Interiors
Architecture Photography focuses on the beauty of the design of a structure. It may be
the whole building or just a fraction of it that is aesthetically pleasing. The quality of
light and the right angles photographed are key. Shooting interiors is about capturing
the essence of a space and involves lighting and position of objects in the room to cre-
ate a perfect mood or tell a story. Colour or monochrome
30th March 6th April Macro and close up photography
Macro photography allows the subject to take up most of the frame and can accom-
modate an incredible amount of accuracy when it comes to small details. The ratio of
sensor size to subject is 1:1 or higher. What is important in the close-up image is the
feeling of immediate proximity to the subject and the expression of detail in the sub-
ject. Colour only
27th April 4th May Panning
Panning photography is a technique that uses a slow shutter speed while moving the
camera along to create motion blur in the background. With the right technique, you
can create a relatively sharp subject combined with a background that features motion
blur for a stunning photograph. Colour or monochrome
25th May 1st June Moods and Emotions
Create images that depict moods and emotions. Use light and colour, with or without
human or animal interest, to convey mood and emotion to the viewer. Colour or mono-
chrome.
29th June 6th July Visual rhythms
These can be simple or complex. Rhythms give a feeling of movement and allow the
eye to move through the image. Various camera and processing techniques may be
used to create these images but equally, single, unmanipulated images can be success-
ful. Colour or monochrome
27th July 3rd August Table top photography
Photograph an arrangement of inanimate objects on a table top. This can include still
life and food photography. Colour or monochrome
31st August 7th September Nature
As per the PSSA definition: Nature photography is restricted to the use of the photo-
graphic process to depict all branches of natural history, except anthropology and ar-
chaeology, in such a fashion that a well‐informed person will be able to identify the
subject material and certify its honest presentation. No manipulation allowed. Colour
only.
28th September 5th October Scape
Scapes is a term that covers the depiction of scenery such as mountains, valleys, trees,
rivers, forests, sea, cities etc. where the main subject is a wide view with its elements
arranged into a coherent composition. Scapes may be natural or man-made. Derived
terms include: Cityscape; cloudscape; nightscape; seascape; snowscape; streetscape;
sandscape; urban scape, etc. Colour or monochrome
