Joint winner Print– Open (Master) First rays of the sun at Wolwedans by Nicol du Toit (27). Scenes such as this are a frequently pho-
tographed feature. However, this one is exceptional. The fabulous lighting makes this a very special image, including the beautiful
highlights on the rippled sand, the rays catching the grass and the plains and mountains in the distance. An outstanding photo-
graph, where one can practically ‘feel’ the silence.
Joint winner Print – Set (Master) Ponte de la Bande by Kim Stevens (27). A master class in monochrome conversion with a beautiful
tonal range that is perfect all the way through. It has a lovely balance with details in shadows, mid-tones and highlights. Composi-
tion is beautiful, one almost expects to see someone appear from the other side and walk across the bridge. A slight distraction is
the very bright light of the lamp, which is a little too prominent, but it has to be there as it provides a feeling of intimacy.
