On The Cover
Our front cover image, Stately stance by Pat Scott was one of the high-scoring
images in our May Competition. Pat explains "I have always loved Impala, and
frankly over the years I have taken my fair share of shots of them from seconds
after giving birth to racing across the veld. But when this one caught my eye with
his majestic stance in this beautiful space, and with the late afternoon lighting I
knew it wasn’t just another Impala shot, it was a ‘must take’ one! He was alert, but
not nervous and just looked straight into the camera…snap!
I used my Canon EOS 5D Mark4 with a Canon 300mm prime lens; and had a
beanbag on the car window. Settings were ISO 200, f 3.5, with partial metering,
shutter speed 1/400s
The image was taken in the Mokala Game Reserve situated approximately 70km
south of Kimberly. What an attractive Park with open savannah, a variety of trees,
and with the Riet River running through the reserve it has a fairly good water
supply. However the main attraction was an abundance of game. They have a lot
of Springbok, but not many Impala, which made this image all the more special.
