Below are the winners in the Open Subject category with the judges' comments.

Winner PDI – Open (Salon)
Meerkat on the move by Fran-
cois Retief (28). This is not only a
successful image but also has a
Wow factor, which is due to the
photographer being at the same
height/level as the Meerkat. The
image is pin sharp with all four
legs being off the ground. The
depth of field is just enough to
keep the focus on the face of the
animal. Suggest turning down
the white in the face and fur and
slightly warming up the image.

Winner Print– Open (Master) ) Milky Way panorama in the Witzenberg by Lesley Parolis
(26). A striking image with an amazing sky. Having the clouds move through the sky dur-
ing the slow exposure adds to the image. The lit-up window in the tiny house at the end
of the road draws the eye into the image, adding to the story of it and placing emphasis
on the sculptured mountains behind. Technically well-captured and very well exposed.
