felt that I was ready to join the Cape Town Photographic Society.”
(She initially believed she wasn’t good enough!).
Ever since she learned how to do dark room work during her
editorship in the 1970s and 1980s, black and white photography
has always fascinated her and has been her favourite genre un-
til today when it makes up a large portion of her photographic
portfolio. However, some years ago she had donated all her
darkroom equipment to Peter Haarhoff to use for his training of
township children in photography.
He is among the special mentors she acknowledges as having
had a great influence on her photographic development over
the past 12 years. The others are Martin Osner, Uschi Stuart,
Nicole Palmer, Vanessa Cowling, Paul Bruins and Leon Oosthui-
zen. “Every one of them has inspired me immensely and shown
me ways to improve my photography by becoming much more
creative.
“I have stayed loyal to the Nikon brand of cameras for the past
40 years, ending with a D600 and numerous top-quality lenses,
but eventually changed to a mirror-less Fuji X-T3 two years ago,
which has given me much pleasure, and not only because it is
so much simpler and lighter to handle when photographing for
hours on end.”
Anna was appointed to the CTPS Council in 2015 and a year
later took over the editorship of Cape Camera, which was last
year voted the best club magazine in the Western Cape. Thereby
combining her two passions: journalism and photography.
