Lesley Parolis found the idea of visiting the Cape Town Castle to
look for interesting shadows a rewarding exercise “particularly as
I had an artistic approach in mind. The morning started off with
a cloudy sky but soon the Castle was bathed in strong sunlight
which allowed us to find shadows to play with. It took a bit of
time but with all the fascinating textures and architectural fea-
tures around the castle and its grounds, I got into my stride, and
in the end I even used my husband Lambe as a model, which
allowed me to create a triptych during post-processing. It was a
very enjoyable and productive morning all round.”
Julian Hulme had this to add: “Having joined CTPS only in Janu-
ary this year, I was keen to go on one of their outings and see
what it is all about. The castle is not a place that I would normally
visit but it was an amazing experience and I am pleased I did
make the effort. I found the brilliant colours and the architecture
most interesting and also enjoyed the warm welcome from the Photo by Cathy Bruce
members who had attended.”
