Below are the winners in the Open category with the judges' comments..

Winner PDI – Open (Beginner) Kalk Bay Wave by Melanie Black (24). It is always exciting to capture one of those waves as it demon-
strates the incredible force of nature. This particular wave is full of interesting shapes and texture. A good choice of shutterspeed
was used to show some movement in the splash which freezes the wave into position. However, the overly bright sky distracts from
the main action. A slight crop at the top and some darkening of the sky would have increased the drama of the image.

Winner PDI – Open (Intermediate) Shadow Train by Charles Booysen (24). A very interesting image as one can see the background
through the flash of the passing train. The light trails on the road on the left are complimented by the light trail of the train on the
right with both of them disappearing into the darker distance. Perhaps tone down slightly the strong green colour in the front of
the image to increase the attention on the action.
