Winner PDI – Open (Advanced) Rose by Lea-Anne Al-
exander (24). A beautifully executed image of a rose in a
central position with exquisite colours, lines and textures.

Winner Print – Open (Master) Bateleur by Nicol du Toit
(25). A very strong image and the fact that the bird looks
straight at the viewer with water falling from its beak
make it a very powerful and highly successful image. It
is also very sharp from its beak to its tail, yet the back-
ground is pleasingly soft and neutral.

Winner Print – Open (Intermediate) Blue by Liesl Wal-
den (21). A minimalist image of flowers which are all
sharp and attractive. However, doing a bit of ‘gardening’
by taking out the dry and rather ugly branch on the top
corner would have improved the image.

Winner PDI – Open (Beginner) Tankwa
Aerial by Johan Walden (20). Including
some parts of the aeroplane helps with the
placing of the image. It shows the texture
and contours of the landscape below but
the light is quite flat and so the image lacks
colour and contrast which makes it rather
featureless and bland.
