Cape Camera April 2024

Winner PDI – Open (Beginner). African Darter by Tom Gosh (26). The way the darter
looks into the open space on the right is very complimentary. There are great details in
the darker feathers of the bird, which is not easy to achieve. Perhaps lift some of the shad-
ows around the eye and slightly darken the background where the dark spots in the wa-
ter are slightly distracting.

Winner Print – Open (Master). Namib Dessert from above by Anna Engelhardt (25). This
is a luscious image with its silky-smooth dune faces interspersed with some textured sand
that looks like caramel custard. The curvaceous small dunes in the foreground create a
leading line all the way up to the top and the background. It is very well handled as there
also still enough details in the shadows of the dunes.
