Below are the winners in the Open Subject category with the judges' comments.

Winner PDI – Open (Master) Family on Guard by Michele-Ann Nel (28). An
amazing picture with a wonderful story. These meerkats seem to be born ac-
tors, and the composition couldn’t be better if it had been staged. The expo-
sure, sharpness, contrast and colours are excellent against a shallow depth of
field. Congratulation on a superb image.

Winner PDI – Open (Salon). James by John Alexander (28). A beautiful
black and white portrait. It shows great detail in the beard and the excellent
lighting brings out a lot of character in the face and eyes. Although there is not
a lot of contrast in the image, it still has a lot of depth. The direct eye contact
with the viewer makes this an outstanding and well-handled portrait.
