Winner Print – Open (Advanced) Pellestrina Dawn by Joyce Goldschmidt (24)
Natasha Bird commented: The high key treatment intensifies the feeling of isolation and loneliness. The soft
pastel colours add to the artistic impact of the image. It is pin sharp and very well exposed, although some of the
wooden pylons lack details.
Joyce Goldschmidt explains: This image was taken while touring Venice with Kim Stevens in February 2025. The
day dawned misty and calm when we set off to visit the island of Pellestrina. There are dozens of photogenic fisher-
men's huts dotted along the coast within the shelter of the lagoon.
Due to the misty conditions and no division between the water and the sky, I composed the image with the hut
centred in the frame. In post-processing, I removed a few distracting elements, sharpened and adjusted the colour
of the front of the hut which caught the light. Nikon Z5 / ISO 100 / f14, a 10-stop ND filter and an 8-second expo-
sure to soften the water.
Winner Print – Open (Advanced) Table Bay in colour by Brian Jones (24).
Natasha Bird commented: The muted blue tone colours create a very moody atmosphere. The white-water
channel guides the eye to the iconic Table Mountain. Exposure and shutter speed are well handled although
there are some very bright spots in the water and some of the rocks show very little details. However, overall, a
very attractive image.
