Winner PDI – Open (Advanced) Cape Teals Etosha by Tony Edmunds (25).
Natasha Bird commented: Minimalism is an art form which is perfectly executed here by the author with the
empty top part and its beautiful pastel colours and the placement of the subject matter in the bottom third, all
nicely strung out in a single file.
Tony Edmunds explains: The image was taken in the middle of the day under a partially overcast sky on the north-
ern bank of Etosha's Fischer's Pan. I was watching a small flock of flamingos, pelicans, a black headed and grey
heron and little grebes in the water. This family of Cape Teals was purposefully swimming left to right and without
stopping, across the water in the pan. This whole event probably lasted 5 minutes. The morning stillness after a
cloudburst the previous night, their wake in the still white Etosha water and the infinite horizon created this magical
mystical scene. Nikon D850. 500mm. ISO200. 1/500 sec. f11.
Winner PDI – Open (Intermediate) Dinner is Served my old friend by Tom Gosh (22).
Natasha Bird commented: An appealing image that shows a great interaction between man and seal and cre-
ates an intriguing juxtaposition. Well exposed and good composition. Perhaps a different crop with less sky would
add to the image.
