Kim Stevens commented: Looking at this image one can practically hear the opera. Its appeal
is the repetition of circular and oval shapes and the beautiful colours which are in ranges of red,
orange, yellow and pale blue. The exposure of the many lights and the chandelier is particularly
well handled.
Richard Goldschmidt explains: The photo of the interior of the Venice Opera House was taken
on our February tour to Venice with Kim Stevens. When the mid-day light outside was too bright,
we looked for alternatives to photograph. One was on an internal tour of the Opera House.
Large cameras are not allowed inside and I could not lie on the floor or use a tripod, so it had to
be a quick, handheld sneaked shot. In post-processing I made sure that everything was sym-
metrical and lined up. The curtain was a little way up and workmen were working on the stage
set when I took the photo, so I had to lift the camera a bit to cut them from view.
