Winner PDI – Open (Advanced) Dawn at Galata
Tower by Simon Frank Mouton (26).
Francois Roux commented: The symmetry in this
image is very strong. It is well exposed with all the bright
streetlights being well handled.
Simon Mouton explains: At the end of April this year I
attended an amazing 7-day workshop with Martin Bar-
ber in Istanbul.
Day 6 started with an early morning photoshoot of the
iconic Galata Tower. It was so beautiful that I decided to
visit the scene again with a fellow photographer early
the next morning. The light was amazing, and the lines
beautiful. I waited for a local to walk down the cobble-
stone street.
I purchased the R6 at the end of 2024 specifically for its
amazing low light capabilities (and autofocus).
Taken handheld with a Canon EOS R6 Mk II, 24-105 zoom
at 43mm, ISO 2500, f10 1/20 sec.
Winner Print – Open (Master) St Georges cathedral Cape Town by Lesley Parolis (27).
Francois du Bois commented: The photographer
handled this image extremely well. It is perfectly
exposed and composed. All the horizontal and
vertical lines are placed perfectly within the image,
with not a millimetre out of line.
Lesley Parolis explains: This image was taken
during the CTPS outing to St Georges Cathedral
and Die Groote Kerk in April this year. Martin Bar-
ber had given us an excellent talk on panoramas
and how to stitch them and then straighten the
verticals and horizontals in Photoshop.
I wanted to put this into practice and the huge ex-
panse of the cathedral was an excellent place to
try. This image was taken looking down the nave
to the altar and the stained-glass windows. I took
four images tilting the camera upwards each time.
The camera settings for the Vertorama of four im-
ages were as follows: A Nikon Z9 camera with a
Zeiss Milvus 15mm F2.8 lens at F11, ISO 100, on a
tripod, SS 20 sec.
The raw images were processed with DXO Pure
Raw 4 and then imported into Adobe Lightroom
for further processing and then merged to a pano-
rama. The image was imported into Photoshop for
final editing, cropping and straightening of verti-
cals and horizontals. The final image was sharp-
ened and denoised with Topaz AI Denoise.
