Winner PDI - Set (Beginner): Simonstown Yacht club by Melanie Black (26). A busy image but well com-
posed. The pier creates a strong lead-in to the image and the juxtaposition of the small boats in the fore-
ground with the yachts and naval vessel in the background add depth and interest. The water reflections
have been handled well and there's sufficient detail in the shadows underneath the pier. The textured
and warm coloured clouds add additional interest. Overall, a lovely image.

Winner Print – Set (Master):
Smooth Saxophony by Kim Stevens
(27). Good storytelling in this image,
great mood, somewhat soulful. I can
imagine the saxophonist lost in his
own thoughts, little money to show
for his efforts, no-one paying much
attention. The recession created by
the player, the guitar case and the bi-
cycle create depth and visual impact
as do the textures in the paving and
wall. The image works in mono and
the conversion is well handled. What
I like less are the bright highlights on
the wall adjacent to the lamps. The
lamps are also a little bright, so your
eye does tend to get drawn to them
before you look further into the im-
age. But overall, a strong image.
